Command-click on any sound to instantly provide a list of other sounds in your library that sound the most similar. Tone, timbre, envelope, pitch and rhythm are all considered
Orion chunks up every audio file and analyses each of these pieces separately. This allows you immediately find a perfect sound match from a file full of various articulations, performances and variations.
Provide a text prompt and Orion will evaluate the meaning of that phrase and search for sounds that fit - very much the same way a sound designer would think.
Enter the text 'sad monster', and Orion will search your library for "The sound of a sad monster"!
This can be a great starting point for further searching.
Once you have found your list of sound matches, you can then further refine the search by highlighting and sorting the list with a set of user-extendable characteristics like HF, LF, Distortion, etc. Essentially you can take a list of results, for example 'Wind sounds', and then sort them by how Hissy or Rumbly or Distorted or Dog-like or Gun-like or Voice-like or Ringtone-like they are!
Record directly into the app from a microphone or virtual source and search for similar sounds
Given a text prompt, Orion will search for files whose name or description include contextually relevant words.
Entering 'seaside' will return files that mention sea, wind, boats, seagulls, etc. Another great starting point!
“It took me no more than 30 minutes with Orion to realise that it will be a permanent part of my workflow as a sound fx editor / sound designer. Finding sounds that have the right emotional impact has never been easier! This is the future.”
“Orion is a powerful new SFX search tool that uses intelligent AI to analyse and match sounds in a genuinely useful and intuitive way. I’ve been using it with crowd libraries, and its performance matching capabilities are incredibly impressive. It can pinpoint similarly performed shouting, whispering, or mumbled walla with remarkable accuracy. Find something that’s almost what you’re after, and if the right sound exists in your library, Orion will help you track it down.
It also demonstrates a strong grasp of tonal qualities and performance styles across different languages, adding another layer of depth to its results. One standout feature is the ability to record an excerpt directly from the built-in mic (or from any source) and have Orion search your library for matches. It often surfaces brilliant, unexpected results that would be difficult to discover through traditional searching alone.
It’s been a privilege to be part of the alpha testing team. Support is exceptional. Responses typically arrive within minutes, and there’s a genuine willingness to jump on a screen share to help, listen, and offer guidance. Orion is evolving in direct response to real-world feedback, just like Kraken, which has already proven itself invaluable for dialogue editors.”
“Ok this is just silly now. Looking for big industrial lights being turned on. Usually searching that alone will come up with a few, then you have to be creative and search for things that sound like that. Breakers, metal clunks, relays etc. But you need to know what to look for to discover them. Thought I would literally do a command search of “big industrial lights being switched on” and it brought up so many great options. Would never think of looking at “basketball hitting a rim” but it works!
Orion is blowing my mind in a good way.... It’s genuinely rewiring how I think about sounds, and weirdly expanding my vocabulary!”
“I had a good win with a magic sparkle that I needed for this kids animation. I needed a different one to what I have been using and it’s got to the point where I feel heard and used all of them, but Orion found me a different one. The filename was something I never would have searched for”
“ORION gets to the core of your sound library, revealing how it truly sounds—not just how it’s labeled.”
